
Creation, Covenants, and Christ: An Introduction to the Old Testament
The Law, the Prophets, and the Writings are part of a cohesive story that points to Jesus, Son of David and Son of God. This course will survey the Old Testament with a focus on its theological emphases. Attention will be given to the historical background, purpose, message, structure, and themes of each Old Testament book, to see the details that tie the biblical narrative together and understand the promises God both makes and keeps through his Son.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Gain an understanding of the storyline of the OT, particularly as it culminates in Jesus Christ.
- Synthesize and embrace the major theological themes of the OT.
- Grasp the message, structure, and content of each OT book.
- Recognize the indispensability of the OT for a proper understanding of the NT,
as well as its implications for Christian living. - Demonstrate general knowledge of the geography, history, and society of ancient
Israel as well as the key people, events, and places in the OT. - Foster personal spiritual growth and transformation through the study of the Old Testament, enabling students to deepen their love of God and their faithfulness as servants in their local churches.
